Roofing Experts Support CIF Applications for 2023/2024
Leading Roofing Firm Provides Essential Assistance for Education Facilities Seeking Capital Funding
As the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) applications for 2023/2024 open, academies, sixth form colleges, and voluntarily aided (VA) schools face a crucial deadline this month to register for capital funding. Recognizing the importance of this opportunity, renowned roofing firm PermaRoof Commercial has stepped up to support educational institutions in their applications.
Established by the Department of Education, the CIF aims to identify buildings in need of repair and provide funds based on the strength of applications. Over £498 million of funding has already been allocated to 1,405 projects in 1,129 schools and colleges for 2022 and 2023. This annual opening of applications presents a chance for education facilities to enhance their buildings, with roof replacements, window upgrades, and central heating improvements taking precedence.
Sunny Lotay, National Commercial Manager at PermaRoof Commercial, highlights the significance of CIF funding: “The CIF offers vital financial support for essential building work in schools and colleges. However, the application process can be challenging. What many don’t realize is that suppliers can actually assist at the application stage by providing structural surveys and evidence of required work, which can significantly strengthen an application in a highly competitive field.”
Each project application is evaluated based on three criteria, with individual weights assigned to each. Project need carries the highest weight at 60%, followed by project cost at 25%, and project planning at 15%.
Sunny further explains: “For education facilities considering flat roofing projects with CIF support, the initial step is to engage a flat roofing specialist to conduct a comprehensive survey. This survey will provide an assessment of the current condition, identify necessary improvements, and recommend suitable solutions. By collaborating with a reputable specialist during the application process, the project requirements, planning, and cost will be expertly outlined. This lends authority and structure to the CIF application, significantly increasing the likelihood of securing funding. It’s crucial to involve a supplier sooner rather than later.”
The application period is currently open, with registration due by the end of this month and final submission by December. Following submission, the Education and Skills Fund Agency, a division of the Department of Education, takes approximately four months to assess each application individually. Successful projects can expect to receive notification around April.
Regarding PermaRoof Commercial’s recent work in the education sector, Sunny reveals: “Our team has recently finalized projects in collaboration with Southern Industrial and Kiers Group, involving three academies. Over the past few months, we conducted core tests and survey reports at these schools to determine the optimal solutions. Subsequently, we provided full specification support, ensuring the schools were well-informed about costs, needs, and the planning process. This information serves to bolster their CIF applications.”
