Revitalizing Levenmouth: Transforming Rail Infrastructure for Social and Economic Growth
Transport Scotland, in partnership with Network Rail and industry collaborators, has meticulously crafted a comprehensive delivery program for the Levenmouth Rail Link project. Through close collaboration, the project scope has significantly expanded, unlocking additional opportunities and benefits for the region.
Expanding Horizons: Embracing New Possibilities
The project has evolved significantly since its initial announcement in 2019, encompassing further investment in electrification, active travel routes, freight connections, and tourist/charter connections. In addition, the project now includes additional bridge works alongside the previously planned double-tracking and station developments.
Building Bridges to Progress: Station Locations Revealed
As part of the Levenmouth Rail Link development, two new stations will grace the line, providing enhanced connectivity for the local community. These stations, located at Cameron Bridge and Leven, mark crucial milestones in the project’s commitment to facilitating seamless transportation.
A Glimpse into the Future: Project Timeline
The Levenmouth Rail Link project is well underway, with key milestones charted along its timeline. The old track has been lifted and responsibly recycled since July 2021, setting the stage for transformative progress. Notably, the completion of the first mile of track and the Thornton junction connection is expected by August 2022. Following this, station planning applications will be submitted by November 2022. The scope of the project was further enhanced in January 2023 with the inclusion of Bawbee bridge work. With these developments, the project is slated for completion in spring 2024.
